Olmert pushes for peace with Abbas
The Israeli prime minister has told parliament that he will devote the coming year to pursuing peace with the Palestinians.

In a speech on Monday, Ehud Olmert said the current Palestinian leadership was serious about reaching a deal and that an opportunity should not be missed.
Frequently interrupted by catcalls from opposition MPs, Olmert said the time was past for making excuses not to talk to the Palestinians

He said the goodwill of Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, and his West-leaning government must not be squandered.
