East Timor president attacked
Al Jazeera Breaking News

The East Timorese military says the country's president has just been wounded in an attack on his home.

Initial reports indicate gunmen opened fire from two cars on Jose Ramos-Horta's house in the capital, Dili, before dawn.

Ramos-Horta is reported to have been wounded in the stomach during the attack.

Military officials say presidential guards killed one of the attackers, Alfredo Reinado, a rebel soldier who was wanted on murder charges for a flare up of violence in 2006.

One of the guards was also killed in the exchange of fire.
