I agree with you about the 'cap-and-trade' thing there Robwash. Have you been following about the predictions that electricity and other utility bills are about to sky-rocket if this legislation passes? I read some other scientists research indicate the planet is actually cooling off ...

Personally I do not believe they achieved very much for the world we live in , but they did achieve much for the world they live in . Since Kapitalism and Democracy have found their way all over the world more and more , the world we live in today has never before been in a such worse state . On the pursue of happiness and the sharing of progress and welth , we tend to forget or ignore that money is not everything , so human relations get a freezer effect , doors stay closed for social ethical justice on the behalf of the poor majority in the world . They are screaming and shouting out , but no one seems to listen , because " santaclaus is coming " , the West with all the new found goods and progress , welth and intelligence . But its the most poor intelligence ever , the intelligence of disquised greed and selfishness . It looks good on paper , but the hand who feeds the paper , will stay more hungry than all the hungry people in the world , greed knows no end . Thank you .

My message:
Dismiss nationality and make use of the powers you have, in order to cease discrimination because of any (lack of) citizenship. There's no such thing as a national interest, when it comes to global governance. Don't you forget that.
Furthermore: Mr. Berlusconi, you're insulting democracy and you know the reason why.

Baz from Canada is correct most of the money does not reach the people that need it. The problem is basic: Is helping a few worth all the thievery of the greedy? Or should activities like this vanish all together?

(1) do not repeat the blunders of Iraq and Afghanistan (2) push for war crimes for Gazan genocide and Sri Lankan massacres (3) ensure state sponsored terror states (Israel, Sri Lanka and others) pay reparations and punishment for war criminal leaders (4) enlarge decision making to include emerging powers for more balanced decision making (5) stop export of white collar criminal business practices to developing countries

As a consequence of member states of G8 being glaringly dilatory in regard to their earlier pledges of such"aid-with-strings attached" it would surely have been more credible if they had pledged to give the pledged "aid" to the UN Organization and its Agencies for the purpose of alleviating the ongoing dire poverty in Africa. The adage "put your money where your mouth is" seems more than appropriate. Another "don't put your foot in your mouth" again. - Starkly "G8" is being out manoeuvred by member States of the Non-Aligned Movement in every such arena. ///snowyonetoo.

It’s a dirty little secret among the journalists here: What would we do without Silvio? His perpetual personal scandals are the only spark of this summit.
Please forgive the “watching paint dry” cliche, but that’s exactly what most of these summits are like.
The G-20 a few months ago in London was refreshingly different. But after a couple days at this Italian G-8, the cliche is back to haunt us all.
In terms of relevancy, the G-20 set a new standard in not just consensus, but practical policy. The sheer scale and scope of the crisis cut through the usual grinding negotiations and there was real action on stimulus, financial oversight, trade and more money for the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
But this summit has gone back to the same old slog, a fog of declarations and details that amount to sound and fury signifying something that won’t happen for months, even years.
Many here were hoping for more than the usual declarations and photo-ops that litter these summits

...and another thing: now that the Earth is cooling, can we knock it off with all the silly cap and trade plans?

Don't believe these donor countries. They promise in billions but never give. Where did the billions promised to Palestine and Gaza go. When they give to poor countries they take them back by way of consultancies and expert advice.

According to specialists around 5-10% aids go to needy people and most of the products are outdated in first world or expired sometimes given to poor people. Other 90% goes to experts, ministers, district distributors, local MP, mayor, police and political people of ruling party of that country. Sometimes for emergency situation like cyclone or last tsunami affected people get some aids to keep them live, but after that all those money and materials disappears ........

By their deeds thy will know them. Hit them where it hurts, the advocates of greed and aggresion! When France opposed the war in Iraq, the American consumers boycotted French goods. It´s indeed very effective. All people around the world that are opposed to the American and English aggression in Afghanistan and elsewhere should choose goods from other countries when possible. Israeli products should be boycotted all together, even if there´s not - I can´t think of any such item, though! - an alternative product. Just go on without it like we did when South Africa was a country with an apartheid system. This is something everyone that shares this opinions can do. As a consumer you have the choise! Ciao!
