Israels failure? |

Israel is realizing that the rest of the Arab leaders are simply cowards and will do nothing to help the Palestinians. You think anybody in Israel really cares about Palestinian civilians deaths? I heard some say that there will be no Palestine if there are no Palestinians. What is happening is Genocide: First Gaza, then West Bank. Israel has a lot of bombs. |

Your thought process is so flawed. If your son or daughter was targeted because they happen to live in Israel you would feel quite different I am sure. There is never an exuse for killing civilians. The Israelis pulled out of Gaza year ago, instead of building a viable homeland, the Palestinians instead choose to stockpile weapons and attack Israel. Their goal is not to have a free independent country in Gaza and the West Bank, they will not be happy until all Jews are dead. |

I agree with Nir Rosen because, as he suggests, sooner or later there is really no other stance for objectively thinking people. Your background, nationality and religion (like mine) make no difference. Finally we all discover that we ourselves are the terrorists if we simply pay taxes in Canada or the United States. It is a terrible realization. We have been betrayed by the highest voices in our land, but the truth shall out and in the end, it is you and I as individuals who must be honest. |

President elect Obama does not have any presidential authority and we must not atke his silence for complicity. Remember Obama's favoroite scripture ia the be-attitiudes by Isa/Yusef/Jesus. It is true that Israel needs to look in the mirror and see the Nazi like ghettos it creates. They are so wrong and do not get it! However, the author is unrealistic to think Obama would break political protocol in the U.S. to undermine his programs. The author does a disservice to Hamas by not holding them responsible too. Better than sending silly rockets would have been to spend money on a world wide PR campaign to educate people on their plight. |

Israels failure to learn |
|
|
|

Your article echos the words of President Ahmadinejad, the Iranian presidents, particularly with reference to Arab leaders. He implied, in his interview with Iranian TV that the Arab leaders are good for getting together in conferances and talking with no action.
He even questioned if these guys are fit to be leader of their people.
No wonder he is more popular amongst ordinary Arabs than his own people.
Occupation of Palastine will soon be over, but before that happens many will die. |

I agree on many points the difference between 'terrorist' and 'freedom fighter' is often a matter of perspective. However, whether by passenger jet in New York, suicide bombing in Baghdad, or Israeli missile strike in Gaza, intentional targeting of non-combatants is NEVER justifiable.
Also, at this time, Barack Obama has no constitutional authority to intervene in this conflict. Until January 20th, he is legally nothing more than a concerned private citizen.

The only way to stop the racism, violence, the bullying and degrading treatment, that effects both parties extremely negative is through strong economic sanctions on Israel and strong international supervision, bringing in the war criminals to justice and break a just peace treaty. |

As with all occupied people, when your dignity and freedom is taken, the only alternative is to stand up for yourself.

The war between the Jews and Arabs have been in existance for more than 2000 years ago. It is part of their culture to have war though they come from the same ancestor. Quick war history of Israel: Every one Jewish man the Palestinians kill, Israel kills 100 women and children of Palestine and 10 Palestinian men. Oh yeah, America think about backing Israel up on this rampage? Check out what happened to the USS Liberty Google that, then realize who the real terrorists are! |

To understand the pathology of the Israelis is one for the professionals. If this aggression continues the whole Middle East will be radicalized even moderate Arabs. Eventually the Israelis would have to physically lift the land of Israel and put in in some other hemisphere. B/C surely they r making it impossible for themselves to live in peace. Kill they might but they can't do it forever. And even though they may possess nuclear weapons they cannot be used unless they want nuclear blowback. |

ISRAELS FAILURE TO LEARN |
|
|
|
|
|
For sixty years Israel and the Palestinians have resorted to force as a remedy for political problems. The reasons are complex, but it should be obvious that neither is going to "learn" or we wouldn't be having this dialogue. Blind support for Israel by the US and other Western nations have made the UN impotent in this decades-long, shameful situation. Let's hope that the Obama administration, with all its promise, will turn to the UN for a political solution to end the problem.

What Israel has done in Gaza is the first nail in the coffin of Israel. Israel is an invading occupation force that has no right to one inch in any of the Palestinian lands. Very simply the Palestinians will win because they have the right and Israel will fail - as usual - because they have no right! This is the rule on Earth. Please read the history. |

"The Palestinians do not attack Israeli civilians with the expectation that such violence will destroy or defeat Israel." So why do it? Why attack innocent people when you have nothing to gain? What does Hamas gain other than forcing martyrdom on the innocent inhabitants of Gaza? |

The Gaza attack is merely the latest episode of a 60 year war. It won't end Hamas, even if all the leaders are killed. Only 2 countries have made peace with Israel. The world body voted the Jews the right to remain in Palestine. Arab nations, save the two enlightened, refuse to accept the will of the majority. This rejection is what fuels the war. As long as they continue to reject world opinion in favor of their own, it will go on. It's sad. And unnecessary. Are we not human first? |

Much is made of Gaza residents firing rockets at Israel, but who was counting how many missiles Israel has fired at Gaza over the past 6 years? The fact that 3,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks vs 30 Israeli deaths suggest that there are many more then 6,000 Israeli missile attacks. The Israeli reaction now is based purely on posturing for their own elections combined with the certainty that Bush will let them do whatever they want as he has always done before. |

I think you will end up the same by adopting the palestine way of fighting with the occupier.

There is no occupation in Gaza aside from Hamas using the civilians there as a shield. Dancing on their blood worldwide.
For eight years Hamas has targeted towns in Israel with the sole intention to terrorize civilians.
The so called Israeli offensive, is a too late response to the actions of fanatic Hamas.

LEARN SOME HISTORY, MR. ROSEN! |
|
|
|
|

Nir Rosen relates that an American journal asked him to discuss "whether terrorism or attacks against civilians could ever be justified. My answer was that an American journal should not be asking whether attacks on civilians can ever be justified. This is a question for the weak, such as ... the Jews in Nazi Germany, and the Palestinians today, to answer." One detail: No matter what the Jews did, the Nazis were going to try to exterminate them. The Jews were not firing missiles at the Germans. |

Hypocrisy of Arab Leaders |
|

|
|
|
Dear Aljazeera Team,
thank you very much for brief information about what is going on in GAZA. Being a Black African I always thought that the Black African Leaders are the most hypocritical and corrupt leaders in the World but with what is going in GAZA, shows me how useless and brainless they are. If the Western World is supporting Israel, what is the rest of the Arab World doing sitting down watching till their own culture and language get demolished step by step by Israel. |

They should help themselves first, and others will follow. show the world they care about their childrens future and well being, and then others will care about them too.
Yes, it's hard to see the killings, but it's a lot harder to see the self distruction, how a Hamas leader, who has been warned to get his family out, because he and his home were on a target list, chose to stay home with his 4 wives, and 12 children, just waiting for the bomb..
Get up and smell the coffee, FOR GOD'S SAKE! |

Failure to learn? |
|

Predictable article. You could apply this argument to any group/any side. Are you the bad guys, or are we? Launch rockets into neighborhoods or drop bombs? Strap bombs to backs and blow up pizza parlors or bulldoze homes? Our media shows families blown up at weddings - yours shows families killed in air raids. The failure is not the "West" to fail to understand the Arabs. The failure is the Arab/Israeli people to recognize that they are being manipulated by groups with their own agendas. |

Speaking for myself, as a religious Jew living in exile:
I can't tell you how frustrating it is that so many of my people blindly support such corrupt and inept leaders - it's really our achilles heel. Our whole purpose in exile is to recognize our mistakes and repent - and yet, spurred on by our deep fear - we're turning the opportunity God gave us to be a positive influence in our ancestral region into a savage catastrophe. The entire situation, from your end and mine, breaks my heart. |

1) Hamas was never ellected in a fair and just ellection proccess, they overthrough the Fatah, and torchered, killed and intimidated any resistence.
2) The Hamas do not represent a Palastinian State or all Palestinians, they overthrough Gaza but do not controll the West Bank so in effect they have created a third "state".
3) The citizens of this "Hamastan" live in fear of the Regime and do not support them.

I am a Jew living in the USA. I have relatives in Israel, though I've never been there. I have to say I disagree with Israel's actions in Gaza. Of course I want to see Israel exist, but I hate bullying of any kind by any person or nation. I feel the Palestinians have suffered greatly, and this suffering must end. Give them their land and freedom, stop killing them. I do believe that Hamas or people connected too them started this recent conflict, but both sides are incorrect in their actions. |

Missiles are falling on our cities for the last eight years, we tried everything, the country took out the settlements, gave them back their lands, a truce was signed, we give them humanitarian support, electricity and water and still the rockets are falling in our cities, we really don't want this war, we have work, studies, wives, but living under the fear of rocket falling is unbearable anymore. Palestinians are always the ones to be blamed for not wanting peace. Also Mr. Tal from Israel says that Hamas does not want peace! Should we need to remind Mr. Tal that when Israel and Palestine made a very good step towards peace during the presidency of Mr. Rabin it was an Israeli who destroyed the whole peace plan by assassinating Mr. Rabin. Not believing that one man's action should be blamed on to one whole nation, but it sure should give the world an idea on who really wants peace! |

Neither Nir Rosen nor Hamas fully understand the concept "truce." The agreement to cease hostilities for an agreed upon period of time clearly did not entail Hamas the opportunity to obtain and manufacture more rockets in order to terrorise the south of Israel even whilst the agreement was still in force. This in spite of the Palestinian president's calls on Hamas to honour and renew the truce before it expired! How can anyone have sympathy with an extremist militant terrorist organisation? |

This article is nothing more than propaganda and revisionist history. Every Arab and every Jew knows that Israel would be perfectly willing to live side by side any Arab state that was not sworn to its destruction. Don't fire rockets at Israel |
|
|
|
|

What does Hamas expect? If you fire rockets at them everyday of course they will fight back. Hamas does not want peace. Hamas makes attempts to destroy any attempts at a peace talk. Why can't you each have your own state and live in peace? Well, because Hamas refuses to acknowledge any situation where Israel even exists. These non-state actors keep dragging down the world by thinking that they are the representatives of their people. They are not. They took their power through coercion. |

I think everyone's logic to take sides is flawed. I think what you see in Palestine will continue until there's nothing left for Palestinians to build on. As much as I support Palestine the fact of the matter is that the Islamic world will never step in on their behalf in mass, because they'll never be able to organize. Israel is the bigger kid on the block and when you hit him he will hit you harder. Israel will destroy everything. Sad but true. |

Nir Rosen's logic is pathetic. Israel doesnt have a right to exist, so let all the Jews go, and then there can be peace. Otherwise, it is ok for Hamas to bomb innocent covilians, because they are freedom fighters.
So Rosen's logic is give up Israel, call it Palestine, and let Hamas rule, with the killing of people, crucifications, and no freedom for women or anyone else.

I am furious that my tax dollars are going to terrorize and kill Palestinian children. This assault will not put an end to rocket fire, it will only increase it. The root cause of all of this is the occupation. Israel may have pulled out its settlers from Gaza, but they retained control of its airspace, seaports, and borders. They have been killing Gazans at will and strangulating their economy. Peace will come when Palestinians have self determination. |

How is it that when Israel fires missiles into a captive population, that has no reasonable means of self defense, and kills hundreds of people, that is not terrorism?
Also, we should remember that Palestinians continue to be killed on almost a daily basis by the Israeli army in the occupied West Bank, and there are no rockets being fired from there.
I am tired of Israel violating cease fires and killing civilians and then telling the world that everything they do is self defense.

Why do the people believe what Israel did just a "self-defense". Why don't they understand why Palestinian fired rockets to Israel? It is because Israel so oppressive. Restricting Palestinian to get freedom and access in their own land. Israel don't let Palestinian to get proper life. You can see by comparing how Palestinian and Israel lives and how Palestinian defend themselves. If you are thoughtful enough, you'll see the imbalance between the two. |

Hamas must provide peace and security to the people first and foremost to stay in power long term. The creation of a Palestinian state would be a step in that direction. Once recognized by the international community Hamas would have a stable base from which to further advance the Palestinian causes. Hamas should be practical and drop the destruction of Israel as a goal to clear a path forward.

I wonder why Kurdistan can be occupied by 3 nations, humilliated and have chemical bombs drop on them but this does not inspire jihadists in Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Somalia... |

No arabs, no jews should advocate whether a palestinian or a jew state. As a Brazilian, I can never see this as a democratic solution for the problem. One democratic state would be the best and the most impossible solution for the region. The Israeli and Hamas prefer to move weapon trade instead of engaging in a democratic process which would lead them all to define, through elections, the name, the form of government for the new country. But they'd rather see their civilians die. Great leaders! |

Funny old world (unless you are in Gaza) |
|
|
|
|
|
So, a 'civilised' democracy
a) creates a prison of 1.5 million people over half of whom are children (whose land they have taken)
b) denies them food
c) denies them medicine
d)destroys their economy and infrastructure systematically
e)bombs them for 40 years at their leisure with the most modern weapons against which they have no defense.
And then (and this is the best bit)
it stands before the world's cameras and says it is fighting 'terrorism '
at proportions of 150-1.
Hope?

Israel and Hamas |
|
|
|
|
|
The facts are stright and simple, Israel withdrew from Gaza providing the Palastenians with a real chance to manage their lives and have their own state. Hamas missed this opportunity and spend time and money fighting Israel with no justification. There so much a country can swallow. Any country attacked with missles and rockets would response in the same manner as Israel did. The fact that Hamas was elected by democratic means doesn't give justification for its crimes. Hitler was also eleced |

Root of the Problem: Occupation of Palestine.
Solution to Problem:
Reinstate Palestine.

Israels Failure to Learn |
|
|
|
|
|
One question to the author: Is there any viable solution that does not involve the complete eradication of Israel and the removal of the Jews?
One more question (sorry): Why are there no Ghandi's in Islam, no Martin Luther Kings? Is there any such thing in Islam as passive resistence? It seemed to work (albeit imperfectly) for India and the Civil Rights Movement in America.
Or is non violence simply considered weak and humiliating?
Think again, suicide bombers don't seem to be working |

Occupation is wrong and can never be honored no matter what propaganda you put in place....give back what you have taken, it is not yours Isreal. People complain about kids throwing stones..How would you feel if I forcibly occupy your property? We have learned this in South Africa. |

My heart goes out to the oppressed people of Palestine. While I do not support Hamas attacks on Israel, I can understand why they occur. All humans deserve an opportunity to a decent life. Health happiness and prosperity needs to be available to all of us regardless of our ethnicity faith, sex or orientation. Oppression, and killing will just create more oppression and killing.
It is time for peace and harmony in Palestine and Israel |

John, Ocupation is a lovely word of anti-Israel propoganda.
Israel took a chance and exit Gaza 3 years ago!
Gaza is not occupied by Israel for last 3 years!
Gaza is occupied by Hamas, whch year ago throw down elected goverment in Gaza.
And what Hamas did for prosperity?
They enhaned production of Qasam rockets, imported industreal roket and increased fire on Israeli citis.
Hamas, as Iran and Hezbola do not accept right of Israel to exist and considering all Israel as occupied territory. |

Military tactics?? |

|
|
|

Does Hamas not have their military resources, such as guns, hidden in schools and mosques??? This is an extremely biassed article and I urge people to look at both sides of this war, many people that have given feed back sound like this is the only thing they have read on this issue, it is important to look at it from all sides and make an informed opinion. |

Rachael, i hate to break the news to you but the war will not end even if or when Palestine became a state! The reason is because this is a religious war and has nothing to do with a Palestinian state. If you study history Israel was given the land by it's right full owner. Blessings
p.s i am not condoning killing on either side, just so you know, but we have to put things in proper perspective. |
