Somalia fighters 'making comeback'
The opposition says it has taken control of much of the south

Opposition fighters in Somalia appear to have made a major comeback after being ousted by Somali government troops backed up by Ethiopian forces last year.

The fighters and remnants of the Islamic Courts Union first took the key port city of Kismayo and now they say they are making headway across southern Somalia, slowly wresting back from the government control of towns such as Dhoble, near the Kenyan border.

But a Somali government adviser says the opposition is exaggerating the extent of its alleged comeback.

"I think they are less powerful than they were before. But of course they always re-group in areas that are very simple for them to take over," Yusuf Al Azhari told Al Jazeera.

Some Kismayo residents say they are optimistic the lawlessness there will end, just a week after opposition fighters seized the area from clan militias, but others are wary.

Opposition fighters gain ground in Somalia

"The last time the Islamic fighters controlled the city, we saw some violations .. We urge them not to repeat that again," one elder in Kismayo told Al Jazeera.

Other residents have warned the fighters against imposing a strict Islamic code and to focus instead on achieving peace.

But many southern citizens appear to be expecting the opposition fighters to fulfil their promises of respecting tribal divisions in order to prevent pitfalls of the past.

Although accused by the United States of harbouring al-Qaeda fighters, the Islamic Courts Union is credited by some for bringing a degree of law and order to Somalia after its central government collapsed in 1991, giving way to an all out confrontation between various clan militias.

What a complete nonsense, for it is a make-believe comeback, if any. Good headline grapping attempts here and there, which will not be sustained, does no make a real "comeback." Stay tuned!

Somali fighters
Dear Sir/Madam, It is a well known fact that an unwanted governmen cannot be forced onto a nation without their concent and that the United Nations must accept the wishs of the people of the country in question, Somalia, on this occasion. It should not bow to interests of other nations, no matter how powerful these may be. In fact, the UN should support the power of the people in any country. It is a shame, however, that the UN allows itself to be used by other nations to reach their goals.

Good Job
It is a good news that Somali Freedom fighters are back. It is proved that the Somali spirit is unbreakable and 21st century American colonialism is not gonna work. I have no doubt that they are going to kick the Ethiopians out of Somalia and destroy the evil plot of the West. But I'm not sure how they will remain united and not fall apart like their warlord cousins. A crack has among them has appeared allready. I hope they learn a lesson from the past and wont impose strict sharia law now.

A surprise
The Islamic courts fighters should stop showing their force as a reliable which is really misleading. Like these Aljazeera has made the report on, they simple vanish when Ethiopians are reported to be on their way and the vicitims are the unarmed people who are carried away the emotion of temporary success.

Somali aspirations comingback
it is not surprise that the union of islamic courts regained ground in kismayo. the people of somalia are disperate, ignored by the various nations in the world, somalia is under-going severe, ill situation, they have no hope other than their indegenous fight for their lost freedom, and dignity, but i strongly advice (UIC) to act very cautions about developing issues and not to rush imposing stricket Islamic sharia, law, but be very gratual of fulfilling the basic needs, like securtiy, and others

I agree with what fellow Max from the UK
No one can force a whole nation on something they don't need. The so-called gvt are just a bunch of former warlords/traitors who destroyed the country, and don't even have the slightest support of the locals, only US and their mercenaries ( Ethios ) are pushing them on a wheelchair. Islamic courts/Al shabab are wht a lawless country like Somalia needs, they're the perfect rulers.

.. another reason of ethipoian being in somalia is that they are taking advantage of somalia as somalia might not have government .. and lack of government in somalia... don’t worry INSHALLAH (If Gods will) somalia will be united together .. as they say ‘DIVIDED WE FALL UNITED WE STAND’. Please stop talking about ‘Al Shabab’ might be one the only objects front of ethipoian soldiers which holds back the ethipoians soldier to achieve their aims and objects … part 3

ABOUT SOMAILIANS
WELL SOME CONSIDER THE RETURN OF AL-SHABAB(CAN I CALL THEM VIALLEGE TERRISTS) WHO KIDNAPED PEOPLE AND KILL IN THE NAME OF SHIRIA LAW AS SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEMS OF SOMILIANS I DONN'T SO. SECOND, THE ETHIPOIANS FORCE DIDN'T INTERFERE IN SOMILIANS BUSINESS BUT OU MUST SHURE IN ONE THING OF AL-SHABAB OR OTHER GROUPS TREATEN OUR SEQURITY BELIVE IN OUR HISTORY WE DIDN'T HESITATE TO RESPOND IN KIND... BUT WE DO NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH PEOPLE OF SOMALIA TO SEE THIS COME TO ETHIOPIA AND SEE REALITY.

So don’t come up with some nonsense… so please don’t claim or think ethipoians haven done anything bad .. they have their own country .. why not stick with their own country .. and let the somalis be alone … By the way .. we know each other .. Ethipoian people know very well … what somalians are capable of .. remember 1977?? The war between etphipia and somalia .. part 2
