Ban Ki-moon's methods of diplomacy questioned  
 

Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary-general, is halfway through his five-year term. So far he has developed a reputation as a quiet bureaucrat.

Ban says he works behind-the-scenes but some consider him to be ineffectual and question whether his low-key approach is the right formula.
