'US missiles' hit Pakistani town

The missile attack targeted a house in the town of Jani Khel in North West Frontier province [Reuters]

At least five people have been killed in a suspected US missile attack in the North West Frontier province of Pakistan, near the Afghan border, security officials said.

A senior security official told the AFP news agency on Wednesday that "the strike overnight destroyed the house of a tribesman Sakhi Mohammad in the Bannu district".

"At least two foreigners were among five killed," the official said.

Pakistani security forces often use the term "foreigners" to refer to suspected al-Qaeda or Taliban fighters.

Pakistani officials said the missiles were launched from Afghanistan, where at least 32,000 US troops are fighting the Taliban and other fighters.

Stoking anger

Officials also said that several other people were wounded in the attack in Jani Khel, a town in the northwestern district of Bannu just outside the tribal areas where al-Qada and Taliban fighters have found refuge in recent years.

Al Jazeera's Kamal Hyder in Islamabad said that locals believe that the US was involved in the attack, which comes at a time when "...the Pakistani military chief was visiting Brussels to brief Nato commanders on his country's apprehensions regarding drone attacks that are shifting public opinion against the US and Pakistani government".

"There was a report recently in the Washington Post that the Americans had a tacit agreement that they would be able to use Pakistani airspace wherever they thought there were targets," Hyder reported.

"While the government has been denying that there has been any secret agreement with the Americans, they have not been able to come out with a formula to stop such attacks, and that is likely to cause considerable anger within Pakistan because its own military forces are not in a position to defend its citizens within its territory."

US 'blamed'

The US has been blamed for at least 20 missile attacks and a ground assault in northwest Pakistan since mid-August.

Meanwhile, all the attacks since August have been in villages in north and south Waziristan, two semi-autonomous tribal regions where the government has a very limited presence.

Islamabad has protested over the raids, saying they are a violation of the country's sovereignty.

US officers in Afghanistan have stressed improved Pakistani co-operation in squeezing fighters nested along the border.

Colonel John Spiszer, the US commander in northeast Afghanistan, said that pressure on Aghanistan and Pakistan will eventually mean that fighters will be "running out of options on places to go".

But Pakistani officials said the US missile strikes are counterproductive because they often kill civilians and deepen anti-US and anti-government sentiment.

However, General David Petraeus, the US chief commander, defended the raids, saying at least three senior fighters, whom he did not identify, have been killed in recent months in the attacks.

These attacks by the Americans in collusion with Pak Army shows the hypocricy of Pakistan and its people towards the Pashtuns in NWFP. It is time the Pashtuns to form their own state with their fellow brethern from southern Afghanistan, and let the rest of Pakistan go down the drain

theyre really angry now.
Striking back at the terrorists and their supporters cannot possibly make them any more angry. After you want all of your enemy dead at any cost, you don't have any more anger to acquire. hopefully the west won't begin to feel that way. A few surgical strikes are hardly to be compared with the blanket killings done by these vicious fanatics

US missiles hit Pakistani town
If Mullah Omar had given up Bin Laden and kicked out Al-Qaida, we would have left long ago. My personal belief is that coupled with the history of what happens to invaders in Afghanistan and the dysfunctional/corrupt government of Karzai, the chances are slim we will "win"

Taliban
When Pakistan stops the Taliban from operating against Afganistan and the United States from Pakistan we will stop missile strikes into Pakistan. As long as the Taliban operates from Pakistan we should not only continue the strikes but incease them including ground force incursions. We sent troops all the way from the US to Afganistan to fight the Taliban why stop at the Pakistani border?

The US is an instrument of Allah. Only Allah can give all that technology to the US,and through us Allah is purging Islam of all the infedels that claim they are the followers of the Prophet Mohammed. The infidel that kill in the name of Allah. The infidel that rapes and disrespects women and children in the name of Allah. The infidels that pervert the goodness of the Koran. Ask. Would Allah allow the US to do this if it wasn't for him?

US Missle Strikes
Once again the US shows it's complete disregard for international borders and acts as if it owns the world. They say we are only going after people that aid our enemies. If that was appropriate behavior then surely Russia would have been justified in attacking the US when the US assisted the Afghan rebels in their war with Russia.

And Kerry, you understand that nobody was attempting to kill you until you went to their homelands to kill them. The 9/11 strike was supposed to say to all Americans, "How do you like it when it happens to you?" but the Americans were more obtuse than anyone would have guessed, and missed the point totally. Anyway, a few surgical strikes against New York or DC is what is being recommended in Pakistan if only, if ONLY, Americans could comprehend the perspective of others.

Pay back for the Taliban
President Karzai warned monthes ago that the same thing the Taliban is doing by launching attacks in Afghanistan can happen in Pakistan. he said, "we can come over there and knock your houses down". He was referring to Taliban leaders, and so it has come to pass.

Pakistani anger
Its not the Pakistani people that are angry about the drone attacks, its the fundamentalists taliban and alqeda sympathizers that are complaining, as they admit its not pakistani citizens killed but foreign fighters, how can they be citizens? they are practically independent over here.

USA invading Pakistan
Many people even within the USA believe that 9/11 was orchestrated by Bush administration. Whether it's true or not, I agree that US is the world's biggest terrorist, responsible for many thousands of human lives. As for remarks made by the supporters of US aggression - people must be really brainwashed to believe in it's just case.
