Fighters killed in Lebanon clash
Clashes between the Lebanese army and Fatah al-Islam have killed 194 people since May 20 [AFP]

Lebanese troops have killed six armed fighters during a clash in the northern town of Qalamoun, security sources said.

Witnesses said the army had launched an early attack on the Mediterranean coast town south of Tripoli, followed by a firefight using assault rifles and grenades as army helicopters hovered over the area.

The fighting appeared to ease later.
A similar clash erupted last week in Tripoli after Lebanese troops stormed a hideout, killing seven, mostly foreigners.

A more significant clash erupted on May 20 in Tripoli which lead to fierce fighting at a nearby Palestinian refugee camp between the army and Fatah al-Islam fighters.

The fighting since then has killed at least 194 people - 84 soldiers, 70 fighters and 40 civilians - not including Thursday's casualties.
