Iran 'open' to US dialogue

Iran says it is prepared to have dialogue with the United States on establishing a US interests section in Iran and beginning direct flights between the two countries.

Manouchehr Mottaki, Iran's foreign minister, said during a visit to Turkey on Friday that Tehran was aware of media reports saying Washington was interested in opening the diplomatic office.

"In my opinion, talks and a deal on an American bureau in Iran and direct flights between Iran and the United States is possible," Mottaki said after holding talks with Ali Babacan, his Turkish counterpart, in Ankara.

If such a bureau were to be opened, it would mark the first such link between the two countries since the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979.

The United States already has a similar office in Cuba.

London’s Guardian newspaper reported on Thursday that Washington would announce its plan to establish an interests section staffed with diplomats within the next month.

"In recent years, there are many people from the United States - students, academics, businessmen, artists - who want to visit Iran. We support such a development between the two peoples," Mottaki said.

He said that several US companies were already operating in Iraq, but refused to identify them "because of the delicacy of the issue".

Nuclear talks

Mottaki's comments came a day before William Burns, the US undersecretary of state, is due to meet Iranian representatives in Geneva to discuss Iran's nuclear programme.

"I hope this progress [in the negotiation format] will also reflect on the content of the talks," Mottaki said of Burns' visit.

"If the negotiations continue in this way, I hope there will be a positive outcome."

Saeed Jalili, Iran’s senior nuclear negotiator, is set to meet Javier Solana, the European Union policy chief, to discuss incentives offered to Tehran to halt its uranium enrichment programme.

In remark made before he left Tehran, he also welcomed the participation of the US diplomat.

"If they enter [negotiations] with a constructive approach and by avoiding previous mistakes, we can definitely have good and constructive negotiations," Iranian media quoted Jalili as saying.

Condoleezza Rice, US secretary of state, told reporters in Washington on Friday that Burns's presence in Geneva "is an affirmation of the policy that we have been pursuing with our European allies ... for some time now".

"The United States doesn't have any permanent enemies," she said.

The US and other Western powers say that Iran is enriching uranium with a view to using it in a warhead.Tehran rejects the charges and says that it is pursuing nuclear technology to generate electricity.

I suppose Iran's idea would be cheaper than placing 722,000 troops on their soil as part of the "Iranian reconstruction project".

A message to Sherpa from Canada
Don’t worry Sherpa, I think in Iran and surely in western countries esp. US, there are many pliticians who not allow this discussion over nuclear issue easily resuls to a conflict esp. military one. Anyway, if it happens, I mean war, although I strongly hate war and just god knosws how much I laothe that, but that war surely and hopefully will not result in a destroyed Iran.

Iran open to US dialogue
Oh this is just awesome!! I have been telling all of my freinds I am planning on a visit to Iran. I mean this is a country with such history and I simply believe it would be an awesome experience to visit with the people, culture, museums. The students I have met from Iran are nothing at all as I had imagined. I simply hope we (U.S.) will open dialogue with Iran so both countries can learn and understand them. They are after all a form of democracy.

Before war, diplomacy is essential but when diplomacy collapsed the great war would be unavoidable. The global situation at present is the struggle between Capitalist Democracy and Feudal Autocracy. Marxism-Leninism or Communism plus with Socialism has combined with Extreme Talibanism to fight against with Free Trade and Free World. So in my view we might face the Great War among Four Great Religions. It could not be avoid in near future. We have to prepare for that judgment Days.

No one is responsible for it then we the american people for electing losers and thief's who robbed us all clean , tried to do the same to others and now as we are in decline trying with military muscle to re-gain the power we once had...World and worldly politics doesn't work like that !
