Abu Ghraib release party bombed

At least 25 people have been killed in Baghdad's Abu Ghraib district after a suicide bomber blew himself up at a feast held by a sheikh to celebrate his son's release from a US detention centre.

About 30 people were also wounded in the attack on Sunday, which targeted members of the US-backed Awakening groups and police who were attending the dinner, an interior ministry official said.

Ayyid Salim al-Zubai, a local sheikh in the mainly Sunni area, had invited dozens of guests to the banquet in honour of his son, who had been released earlier in the day from Camp Bucca in southern Iraq, residents and police said.

The son had quarrelled with al-Qaeda members while in detention and may have been the target of the attack, residents said.

Awakening groups targeted

Aziz Moklif Ghatha al-Zubai, one of the local chiefs of the Awakening group who organised the dinner in the district's Al-Zaidan village, was killed in the attack.

Police cordoned off the area as victims were taken to a hospital in Falluja, 20km west of the city, eyewitnesses said.

Awakening groups began in the western province of Anbar when Sunni tribal leaders turned on their former al-Qaeda allies in 2006.

Hundreds of such groups have sprung up across Iraq since then, supported and paid for by the US military.

Al-Qaeda has frequently warned that members of Awakening groups will be specially targeted because of their co-operation with the US.

Seems like a premeditated shooting of civilians to me
www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXxUzCcAlPA&feature=related If you look carefully, you see that the soldiers are shooting at vehicles that are moving from the right of the screen to the left while the real fire fight seems to play in the depth. I have a hunch that these people shot a couple of civilians for fun. It might be interesting to track down the person who posted this link and at least attempt to prosecute him although the chance of conviction is obviously nil.

And WE are the bad guys?
All of the anti-American sentiment in the world cannot explain THIS. This is an example of why there will be no peace in Iraq when the U.S. pulls out. Islamic radicals cannot even allow families to rejoyce in the return of loved ones. You would think they would welcome this man home after being detained. No, they must have turmoil, they must have fear, that is their nature and their teachings. There can be no peace with these murderous zealots.

Yes Kevin, I was serious
Actually I have been to Detroit. I know there is crime there. If you're serious about this having nothing to do with religion I think you've been on vacation from reality. A revenge attack from al-Qaeda isn't motivated & conducted by Islamic militants? This man quarreled with al-Qaeda in prison either over cooperation with the Infidels or differences over Islam...who knows...but he's dead for it now. America IS a gun society, I'm not arguing that. Perhaps this guy just owed someone money?

the vid that amir posted
wow those Marines are something shooting civilians from behind a wall. This is where our tax $$$ are going?to buy ammo to kill civilians? These stupid Americans need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law or let the arabs have them and use their law on them. Seeing that vid just made me mad as hell. I think the USA needs to pull out and leave those people alone, they are just playing with us now but we all know that americans do not want to die but those people are not affraid to die.
