Libyan aid ship blocked from Gaza
Three activist boats have reached
the Gaza Strip since August [EPA]

Israeli boats have obstructed the path of a Libyan cargo ship en route to the Gaza Strip.

The ship was said to be carrying about 3,000 tonnes of goods for residents of the Strip in defiance of an Israeli sea and land blockade of the territory.

Monday's scheduled docking was the first attempt by a foreign government to break the blockade.

"Navy ships approached the Libyan boat and ordered it on the radio to turn back, and so it did," Yigal Palmor, an Israeli foreign ministry spokesman, said.

"Anyone wishing to transfer humanitarian aid into Gaza is welcome to do it in coordination with Israel and through the regular crossings. They can also contact Egypt."

The crew of the ship said that they would study other options to deliver the supplies onboard to Gaza.

"We denounce what has happened. It comes to reinforce the Israeli siege imposed on Gaza," Jamal Khoudary, a member of the Palestinian legislature and organiser against the Israeli blockade, said.

"Israel even targets the loaf of bread and the children milk which was coming aboard this ship."

"This is a message to the whole world to watch how Israel deals with the Palestinian people."

Food and medicine

The Al-Marwa departed from the Libyan port of Zuara on Tuesday evening carrying food, medicines, blankets and powdered milk, Khoudary said.

"The ship is safe and will help us since it is carrying food and medicine. There is no reason to stop it," Khoudari told the Jerusalem Post.

Ehud Olmert, Israel's prime minister and Ehud Barak, the defence minister, met on Sunday night to discuss the ship and decided not to consent to its docking in Gaza,  officials said.

"A ship like that is capable of carrying weapons no less than what was on the Karine,  a weapons boat that was seized," an Israeli security official told Maariv newspaper in reference to a vessel intercepted by the navy in 2002 and found to be transporting 50 tonnes of weaponry to Gaza.

"From our perspective, it is a hostile ship that left from an enemy country and we will treat it accordingly."

'Mistake'

The unidentified official also said it had been a mistake to let in the boats carrying pro-Palestinian activists.

"We should have stopped those ships," he said.

Libyan officials have not commented on the latest incident.

Three boats manned by pro-Palestinian activists have arrived in the Gaza Strip from Cyprus since August in violation of the blockade, without drawing Israel into action. The boats contained some aid supplies.

Israeli officials said that they did not want to give the US-based Free Gaza advocacy group any publicity by stopping them.

But another Israeli official said of the Libyan boat: "We will treat this boat different than the earlier ones that were allowed into Gaza.

"Libya is a hostile state to Israel and what guarantees do we have that the boat is not carrying weapons and explosives for Hamas?"

Israel imposed the blockade of goods into the Gaza Strip, part of occupied Palestinian territories, last year to put pressure on Gaza's Hamas rulers.

Israeli terrorist
Starving people of basic needs amounts to terrorism. What would be the international reaction if the blockade was on Israel or any other western ally? Praise to Libya for at least having the guts to defy the Zionist terrorists.

Do we (arabs) really have leaders?
Surely not. Everyone is turning a blind eye just as nothing is happening in Gaza. I really can't understand how they concieve of things. Is it not their responsability to remove the sufferings Gaza is bearing? Do they still think about the day of judgement? One also doesn't understand the absence of voice of the islamic scholars ''alolama''? What a time! we have all means to be the world leading power but unfortunately the islamic leaders '' I mean 'followers' are out of picture at all.

''Israel imposed the blockade of goods into the Gaza Strip, part of occupied Palestinian territories, last year to put pressure on Gaza's Hamas rulers.'' Pressure about what? Anything to do with rockets?

Gaza blockade and Obama
Mr Barack Obama, i know, this incident, as usual, will not bring any 'change' in your mind to continuously support Israeli inhumanity and oppression in Palestine. Go ahead Obama with your slogan 'change we need'...

Aid ship blocked from Gaza
The actions by the Israeli government in blocking aid to the residents of Gaza reminds me, rightly or wrongly, of the Warsaw getto. The suffering of the Palestinians is beyond anything the world should tolerate, yet it does. When will the U.N., and the rest of the world, stand up against this injustice instead of just watching and waiting for the Palestinians to die. The Israeli's should be ashamed of themselves, given their history.

Libyan aid ship blocked from Gaza
The Israeli's need to remind themselves of the oppression they faced in the Second World War. Gaza is the equivalent of a large concentration camp and the Israeli's are acting in a similar manner as the Nazi regime. END THE OCCUPATION... FREE PALESTINE

Israel & Libya ship
Israeli official: "Libya is a hostile state to Israel and what guarantees do we have that the boat is not carrying weapons and explosives for Hamas?" If that was the primary Israeli objection, and not the starvation of Gaza, they would have boarded the ship and inspected the cargo. What sort of a world is this that condones the premeditated slow genocide of a people?

Gaza: When will there be negotiations?
The plight of the Palestinians in Gaza is deplorable but people should not forget that the Gaza strip is under the control of Hamas, a terrorist organization. The Palestinians are actually political hostages in the war between Israel and Hamas. What is deplorable is that the Palestinians are held hostage by their fellow palestinians. When will Israel and the Muslim-Arab world start negotiating for peace? Should we ask M. Ahmadinejab?

gaza blockade
The Gaza blockade doesn't make me happy, and I know for a fact that it doesn't please most Israelis as well. Nonetheless, Hamas -the governing body in Gaza- has said overtly that its goal is "to destroy Israel". If someone has made it very clear that it was their goal to kill you and, in the past, they have used every available opportunity to cause your harm, wouldn't you want them locked safely away until they calm down and change their minds. Why should Israel indulge its would-be destructors?

Most all comments here forget one major cause of the Israel's blockade of the Gaza: Hamas and Palestinian terrorist rocket attacks that terrorize the Israeli children of the city of Sederot! Hamas, you're in charge of Gaza...so STOP the rocket attacks and suicide bombers...COMPLETELY...then see Israel end the blockade!!!

Libyas kind gesture, no comment on rockets
"Anyone wishing to transfer humanitarian aid into Gaza is welcome to do it in coordination with Israel and through the regular crossings. They can also contact Egypt" was the response of Yigal Palmor, an Israeli foreign ministry spokesman. So if you ask Hamas in Gaza,"Why do you allow rockets to be fired into Israel knowing that is the reason being used to suspend shipments of humanitarian good because of the potential loss of life, injuries and damage?" Aid could be stopped in combat.

To stop the blocade...
The Palestinians have to do NOTHING, ie if they do not fire any more rockets then the blocade will stop to exist. Just do nothing and get food. Simple, one might feel, but perhaps it's like kids with fireworks?

Israels Blockade!
I blame some of the Gazan and Hamas for the blockade. Israel and Hamas had a 6 months ceasefire. When Hamas and other group fire rockets to Israel, and broke the ceasefire. Israel has the right to defend itself. What Israel does its unmoral, and it against humanity. Remember: What goes around, will comes around.

I would just like to share my views here. In second world war, there was a genocide done on people that now live in Israel by Nacists. It was a terrible thing and should never happen. But I think Israel is douing the same to people that live in Gaza, only slower. And the whole world thoes not seem to care. I think that actions of Israel, towards Gaza are in fact slow genocide. When you do not geave this people even bread. That is letting people starve to death. So Izrael, please Stop.

Libyan aid ship blocked from Gaza
Yigal Palmor, an Israeli foreign ministry spokesman, said "Anyone wishing to transfer humanitarian aid into Gaza is welcome to do it in coordination with Israel and through the regular crossings. The Israeli spokesperson putting faith in the Egyptian government to strengthen the blockade of Gaza and Rafah gate is gate that cannot be opened without the say so of the Israelis! Egyptians officials in power though on Hamas, weak on Israel's interference in Egyptian

blockade of Gaza
Where is the U.N.? Where is the U.S.? Why does the world continue to allow Iseral to do what they are doing to Palestinians and not do sanctions against Iseral. The U.S. should ban all trade with Iseral until thet give the Palestinians a homeland.

Britains complicity in the creation of Israel
Imperial powers have no right to give away land which does not belong to them.Israel is stolen land.Israeli terrorists have aggrandized their hold in the Middle East with the silent consent of the U.S. American politicians are terrified of offending American Jews for fear the Israel Lobby will pour money into elections to the Senate or House to defeat them.God's chosen people have no conscience. Typical of Israel. Starve an entire people out of your fear. Maybe you should fear the dwindling US support for your 'state'. The day will come when a candidate for US office will FAIL if they have any connection to JEWISH LOBBIES.

What people dont realise
I am not sure why people are blind to the fact that any shipment access to Gaza is usually filled with rockets and weapons. Which sane country would allow its next door neighbour from obtaining weapons to kill its citizens? People are oblivious to it, because they do not hear of the countless rockets into Israel all the time and the only reason why Israelis aren't killed everyday is because Israel is doing a good job in protecting its citizens. Israel is getting unfair treatment by everyone.

Aid to Gaza
Why not allow UN peacekeepers to search the ship for weapons before allowing it to unload? One would think with all that was experienced with the holocaust that the Israelis would be compassionate of other peoples suffering. Shame on them for being blinded by hate to the needs of those who are by blood their half brothers.

Why should Israel indulge its would-be destructors? Oh my GOD!! J. can you really be serious about this statement?!?! Perhaps comming from the last 8 years under a president that locks people up without cause, removes their basic "human" rights, tortures them perhaps starving women, children and the eldery makes sense - but not in the real world. Stop the Nazi tactics.

People in Gaza were far better off under the Fatah control. One must ask himself - Why does Hamas keep on firing at Israeli towns if Israel has already withdrew COMPLETELY from the Gaza strip?

Blocked ship
Is this a joke? If they went through the proper channels they could deliver the goods if it is truly humanitarian aid. "Anyone wishing to transfer humanitarian aid into Gaza is welcome to do it in coordination with Israel and through the regular crossings." It's been blocked because it's trying to come through a blockade used to protect Israel from the millions of people who would love to see it destroyed. Follow the simple request, food + supplies get in. Shame on YOU.

Uh...Wha?
Look, Libya is technically at war with Israel. If they got another country to send the ship over at peace with Israel, it would not be a problem, or if Israel had a treaty with Libya, it would not be a problem. One could question the moral actions of Israel here. But Israel controls the docks. No country would let a country without negotiations, recognition or peace dock in nearly any circumstance-unless Libya allows Israel to board the ship and redistribute the cargo themselves.

whats the diffrence between isreal and stalin and hitler
if you look at history, we can se that Hitler massered the jews and displaced them, and a t stalin who tried to starve west berlin after ww2 by blocking all land routes. isnt that what isreal doing now. in my opinion isreal is Hitler and Stalin combined backed by western countries. the isreali people should return to europe since this is where they orginally came from, since europe has becaome a little more civilised.

Hamas to balme - Accountability all the way
Maybe its time for the Hamas to start thinking of its own people, instead of playing cat-and-mouse war games with the Israeli Army. The entire enclosure was renewed after Hamas tried to set up explosives next to an IDF patrol. They would rather starve 1.3 million people just to get 1 Israeli soldier!

Where are the Arabs, where are the Muslim people? all you people talk about Muslims being brothers and sisters, is that how you react when your brother is treated like this? When an international and massive reaction from we people?
