UN condemns Israeli settler clashes
Israeli riot police evicted settlers from the disputed building after days of clashes with Palestinians

The UN Security Council has condemned a rampage by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in Hebron, which came after they were evicted from a disputed building in the West Bank city.

The 15-member council issued a non-binding statement on Friday that "welcomed Israel's evacuation of settlers from the compound in Hebron on December 4" but also "condemned the resulting settler violence, including against Palestinian civilians and property."

The council urged "respect for the rule of law without discrimination or exception and welcomed the efforts of the Israeli and Palestinian security services to restore calm."

The meeting was held at the request of Arab UN ambassadors who called on the organisation to "take the necessary measures to prevent further escalation of violence and deterioration of the situation on the ground in the Occupied Palestinian Territory which could have serious implications on the already fragile peace process."

Fresh violence

The UN statement came a day after 250 settlers were forcibly removed from the Hebron compound by Israeli security forces acting on an Israeli high court ruling.

The settlers shot and wounded three Palestinians, and hurled rocks at others, as the security operation went ahead.

Violence in Hebron continued on Friday, with dozens of young Palestinians hurling rocks at Israeli troops, who responded by firing tear gas.

In Gaza City, about 2,000 Palestinians took part in a Hamas-led protest against the violence by the settlers.

In the immediate wake of the evictions of Thursday, the south of the occupied West Bank was declared a closed military zone by Israeli security forces.

Right-wing Israelis have vowed to exact revenge for the settlers' eviction.

you dont see this on CNN or FOX
there is never a mention of the settler carpetbaggers, and how violent and racist they are on any USA news channel. the settlers are more extreme than any muslim depicted on these networks. as for the UN, the arabs should sue all the member states starting with the English for giving away land that doesn't belong to them.

Most Israelis are against the fanatic settlers
Having just come back from a visit to Israel I can attest that the majority of the people and the press there hate these fanatic settlers. These people are no differnt than moslem fundementalists except that they don't commit suicide attacks. They will have to be driven out from Hebron if peace will be achieved some day.

Hebron
Why do the Israelis not come to Afghanistan, so many of us from jewish Origin and now Muslims and we have so much place here. Anyone has the right to visit this Holy-Place HEBRON-KHALIL, where Ibrahim is buried. Only they should avoid trouble, since it has the opposite effect. Stealing and lying is not from Abraham.

UN condemns Israeli settler clashes
The UNSC has always acted mainly against Arab and Muslim countries. Their decisions are clearly biased and favor Zionism. If serious why have they not ended the occupation of the Palestinians long ago? Why Muslims and Arabs a population over a billion people have no Veto power?

Aljazeera mentioned in haaretz
Aljazeera was mentioned in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz. The article stated that violence between settlers in Hebron could spark an international crisis. They specifically mentioned grafitti that was on a building that had to be erased before god forbid and I quote "aljazeera got a hold of it". This is not how Israel is...I visited Arab neighborhoods in Israel and they told me the good and the bad about living in the country. The West Bank is a different story. End this without WWIII
