Iraq's electoral commission has stopped preparations for national polls scheduled for January.

The move came after Tariq al-Hashemi, the Iraqi vice-president vetoed a law crucial to implementing the election.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, he said he did so because the law did not give enough representation to Iraqis outside the country.
