War in Mindanao

Appeals for peace between Philippines government troops and the MILF [EPA]
Mindanao in the southern Philippines has a brutal and tortured history.

For centuries, minority Muslims fought Spanish and American colonial rulers in this predominantly Catholic country. Today, they are still fighting, demanding political autonomy from Manila.

Recently, a peace deal seemed within reach, when delegates from both the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), and the Philippines government, met to sign a memorandum of agreement. But the deal was squashed and, once again, Mindanao is at war.

On 101 East, we will look at why peace is once again failing in Mindanao, what is at stake, and what can be done to bring both sides back to the negotiating table.

An appeal to the us government to stop spreading terror to the whole world. They must be true to the picture of uncle sam! With the coming election we are hoping that the incoming president revisit its political policy & stop greed to be the basic consideration.

War in Mindanao
Very well done. It confirms much of what has been told to me by international aid agencies and people from Mindanao: that the government is purposely obstructing settlement and is also involved in the delay if not denial of delivery of relief to innocent civilians.

The situation in Mindanao
The presentation is excellent. What is very sad is that the vast majority of people in the Philippines do not have access to view Al Jazeera - and therefore will not be able to view this.

War in Mindanao
War is never a solution in a conflict between brothers. We are all Filipinos, Muslim, Christian, etc. There seems to be this imaginary dividing line that separate Filipinos in Mindanao that is based on religious rivalry like a fire that was constantly fed by the Spanish and American colonizers, the present Philippine government, and now, the jihadists whose only aim is violence and anarchy in name of Allah, Islam and Mohammad (PBUH). Let there be peace in Mindanao.

WAR IN MINDANAO
Brothers: You are true that this is the longest war in world today remains unsolved. Being one of the concerned of the UN to have PEACE an TRANQUILITY among all her member countries irregardless of any creed, tribes and religion, they must have to interfere and set a rules of pacifying this, like what they did in East Timor, Georgia and in Bosnia. Thanks, Rasol

We need more of this type of news making.
Thank you. This was insightful. Aljazeera is remarkable in its approach, neutral and informed. The reality is Mindanao is now populated by Lumads, Christians and Moros all of whom share a common ancestorary. Our ancestors converted or were force to convert to both faiths. The land is OUR land. It does not belong to any one group. A solution can only be achieved through dialogue and MINDANAWANS must take the lead. Manila will not solve our problems.

sad but thankful
i am a bit sad that the real situation in mindanao that was excellently projected by aljazeera may not even be viewed by government officials. if they do, i know they would only deny it like they had always done. but ajazeera made an excellent job and i hope it does more reports about many other things happening in mindanao. among these are the arming of civilians, the rise of the vigilante groups, the killings of activists and journalists in mindanao.
