Watch part two
Bangladesh is facing a crucial election on December 29. The country is returning to civilian rule after almost two years of a military-backed administration.
In that time, the interim government launched a major crackdown on corruption, jailing politicians and business leaders.
Those arrested included two former prime ministers - Khaleda Zia of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Sheikh Hasina of the Awami League.
The two women have dominated Bangladeshi politics for almost 20 years and share a deep, bitter rivalry.
But with both women now free and still leading their parties, they are once again competing as the main contenders in the upcoming poll.
This week, 101 East asks what is the future of Bangladeshi politics?
This episode of 101 East aired from Thursday, December 4, 2008.
