Poetic Pilgrimage consists of Sukina Abdul Noor and Muneera Rashida who form a hip hop and spoken word duo who have been together as a group for six years.
They converted to Islam three and a half years ago and as well as the controversy that they have caused as Muslim female rappers they have gone on to achieve critical acclaim and success and are respected for their honesty and heartfelt lyricism.
They have been involved in the arts for many years - Muneera became a DJ at the age of 14 in their hometown of Bristol where she became very well known and respected.
Sukina has been writing song lyrics and formed a few groups whilst growing up in addition to joining various choirs at school where she and Muneera first met.
They decided to join forces and create Poetic Pilgrimage to counteract what they see as a misrepresentation of women in the mainstream music industry, particularly in the hip hop genre.
They have always tried to use their music to address issues of importance to them and tackle themes that often go neglected.
The girls greatly enjoyed working on Artsworld as they felt the show brought together stories of creativity from accross the globe, showing how people can be united through the arts.
