Mohamed Al Durra special

Watch part two

What happens to the families of those killed in war when the world's attention moves on; the headlines change, journalists leave and the news goes elsewhere?

Almost nine years ago, Mohamed Al Durra became an icon of Palestinian suffering when he was shot dead in Gaza in 2000.

The symbol of a terrified boy crouching behind his father, trying in vain to shield him from gunfire, became a symbol of the second intifada at the time. It is a symbol which remains as potent as ever.

In the wake of the recent war on Gaza - and its many casualties - we visit the Al Durra family to find out how they have coped over the years and to understand how the pain of loss and bereavement continues, long after the guns cease firing.

This episode of Focus on Gaza aired from April 17, 2009.
