FROST OVER THE WORLD
Mid-year highlights for 2009

In this episode of Frost over the World, Sir David looks back on some of the highlights of the last six months.

He speaks to world leaders, celebrities and artists - starting in January, when the world's attention was focussed on the Gaza Strip after the Israeli government sent in troops during a 22-day war.

Ban Ki-moon, the United Nations secretary-general, talks to Sir David about the Israeli airstrikes on UN buildings in Gaza. He also announces the UN's plans for an emergency appeal for humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza.

Pervez Musharraf, the former Pakistani prime minister, talks to Sir David about the dramatic changes he saw the country go through during his 10 years as president.

Sheikha Hasina, Bangadesh's former prime minister, also talks to Sir David about how the Bangladeshi government has had a change of heart and she will now be allowed to return to the country - something she attributes to pressure from the Bangladeshi people and international media.

And David Miliband, the British foreign minister, joins Sir David to discuss politics around the world.

Chinese pianist Lang Lang discusses taking the world of classical music by storm, while Cuban ballet dancer Carlos Acosta talks about his rag to riches story.

This episode of Frost over the World airs from Friday, June 26, 2009.
