America and Al Qaeda

Seven years after 9/11 the so-called war on terror led by the US has left thousands of American citizens dead as well as hundreds of thousands of Arab and Muslim citizens.

Much of the Middle East is now in turmoil and Osama Bin Laden remains at large, a man few people outside intelligence agencies had heard of prior to 2001.

In a special series America and al Qaeda, Marwan Bishara, Al Jazeera's senior political analyst, examines the effects of the momentous day and the logic of the US-led war on al Qaeda and how the organisation became a global phenomenon.

Marwan is joined by leading analysts as well as the former head of the Bin Laden unit of the CIA and a former head of the Pakistani intelligence service.

Cold War
The speakers failed to accept the fact that Soviet - US relations are one of the major key and as all the elements of this war shows that the history is repeating it self

America & Al Qaeda
A very good program, I particularly liked seeing American's admit their Foriegn Policy errors. As much as I would like to see Barak Obama become the next U.S. President I wonder if Americans would sacrifice better health care to maintain a world dominant image just as Russians sacrifice civil liberties to maintain super power status.

I found these segments to be quite entertaining. These blame America first kooks don't remember the first WTC bombing or the bombings of our embassy's in Africa or the bombing of the Cole when President Clinton did absolutely nothing in response. Bin Laden even stated that he was emboldened by our lack of response, hence 9/11. They also forget the Bosnian war where we liberated Muslims. Islamic extremism is the source of the war on terror, not American foreign policy.

Decent Show but Overly Simplified
I want to start by commending you on the collection of a group of experts to discuss an issue that certainly needs lots of discussion. I have some problems, however, with the substance of the discussion. This is an unbelievably complex issue that demands nuance on both sides, and while the panelists and moderator showered criticisms on the US for ignorance towards Islam and the Muslim world, there was little nuance towards the US and its policies.
