Reflections of War

Watch part two       Watch part three         Watch part four

On December 27, 2008, Israel's already crippling siege on the neighbouring Gaza Strip escalated into a brutal war.

Reflections of war

Ayman Mohyeldin
Sherine Tadros

In just three weeks more than a thousand Palestinians were killed and a further 100,000 civilians left homeless.

Al Jazeera was the only global news network reporting from both inside Gaza and Israel for the entirity of the conflict.

Throughout Ayman Mohyeldin and Sherine Tadros brought news of the human tragedy unfolding to living rooms throughout the English speaking world.

They found themselves as vulnerable as the civilians of Gaza and now they give their full accounts of what it was really like to report that war.

Al Jazeera's new weekly show from Gaza will begin on February 20 reporting on the very latest conditions and developments in the territory.

Reflections of War can be seen on Al Jazeera from February 14 at the following times GMT: Saturday 1900, Sunday 0000 and 1400, Monday 1000, Tuesday 0600, Wednesday 0300

Thank you
Thank you Al Jazeera for your outstanding coverage. I've watched your news channel here in the Netherlands on cable almost 24/7 during this brutal Israeli onslaught on the population of Gaza. Words fail to express my deepest respect for Ayman Mohyeldin, Sherine Tadros and their crews informing the world about these massacres while risking their own lives. And I know I speak for many people here in the Netherlands who feel the same. Once again, thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you!
What a shocking, brilliant program - this is a much needed coverage on the atrocity, you and your teams have done a phenomenal job despite everything that stands against all of you. Please keep up the good work, the rest of the world needs to know - we WANT to know.

Reflections of War
Reflections of War was an excellent program everyone should watch. “Solute to the reporters, Ayman and Sherine and all their crew members. They have a full sense of the value of their work and what they want to do with it. Some people in the West criticize Aljazeera for being “one-sided.” If taking the side of humanity is viewed as “one-sided” then let it be. Your reports have inspired and encouraged me to do more than what I’ve been doing for global justice.

Well done
Well done to the Aljazeera news team, and may it serve at a warning to all palastinians that live in hate and violence that if you play with fire - at some point you will be burnt. Now that the palestinian terrorists are dead, lets hope that the innocent can raise their children to live a good life, instead of teaching them hate.

With time this material will gain weight and, one day, extracts of it will be mandatory teaching material in every school of the world when explaining what crimes against humanity means. Excellent work!

You guys did an awesome job covering the war in Gaza. Thank you for broadcasting in English for us so that we could see the true horror of what was happening. Hopefully there will be war crimes tribunals that can access your awesome coverage.

General Thanks
When I decided a few months ago to check out your website I expected it to feature rants against "the Great Satan" and videos of Westerners getting their heads chopped off. Thanks for not meeting my expectations. You do a very excellent, very professional job. The Emir should consider some advertising in America. I am sure a lot of Americans who have never bothered to access your website have the same opinion I used to have. Why not encourage them to check for themselves.

Reflections Of War
I don't normally comment on blog articles (I've always doubted if anybody actually read the comments) but I noticed your Reflections Of War garnered only one comment. It deserves more praise. Mohyeldin and Tadros (and I presume your editors) did an excellent job. It's refreashing to see news coverage that hasn't gone through the pro-Israel filter. Keep up the good work.

Just as hard to watch as it was the first time. I dare anyone to watch this without crying. I thank Al Jazeera for being there and doing the incredible work they did and for putting this together as a reminder.

US Policy
The US citizens that appreciate the problems reported by these individuals need to realise that it is within your power more than others to stop the supply of the weapons that are being used on the palestinians. Stop israeli aggression, stop the supply of high tech weaponry from the usa. Without these supplies israel might consider a negotiated settlement

Al Jazeera reports critically important news.
I agree with Steve Palmberg about the importance of Al Jazeera in educating my fellow Americans. Sadly, I suspect that advertising $ would be wasted. Folks need to be taken, personally, to this fountain. So Steve, I hope you will join me in trying to promote Al Jazeera's cause. Al Jazeera's cause is usually our own, as well. It's mind boggling how we Americans view ourselves as so well-informed, our press so free, our access to information so vast. Yet we remain woefully ill-informed.

and Hamas ?
It was very emotional, and very efficient film, the innocent people, kids are the same situation every war, everywhere, but I think in Gaza the real guilty is not Israel, but the Hamas, and there was no a word about this!

Thank you!
Your courageous and brilliant coverage of Israel's assault on Gaza brought the shocking truth right into our lives. Otherwise here in the US one would never have known that such horrors were being perpetrated! Your reports showed the stoicism and dignity of the people of Gaza. I was compelled to act and sent your reports to congress people and media. The Israel lobby is very powerful though. Ayman and Sherine, please follow this story for us! I feel certain your reports make a difference.
