Watch part two
Since the invasion of Iraq in 2003, suicide bombings have killed an estimated 10,000 people. A spate of suicide bombings in the past few weeks has raised fears that security in Iraq may relapse into chaos once again. So what drives a suicide bomber to make the ultimate sacrifice? Is it religious fanaticism or unshakable belief in the cause? Or something else? In this episode we explore the mindset and methods of this deadly form of attack.
Inside Iraq is joined by Tahseen Al-Shekhli, the civilian spokesperson for the Baghdad security plan, Robert Fisk, a reporter for the Independent newspaper, and Yoram Schweitzer, the director of the Terrorism Project Institute for National Security Studies.
This episode of Inside Iraq aired from Friday, April 17, 2009.
