Inside Story - The future of Pakistan

It is barely 24 hours since Pervez Musharraf resigned and major differences between Pakistan's ruling coalition partners are already becoming apparent. They cannot agree on who should succeed Musharraf or on Musharraf's fate.

The parties are also split over whether to reinstate the sacked judges and the level of authority they should be granted.

How to tackle a violent Islamist insurgency on the Afghan border is also a divisive issue.

On the foreign relations front, now that Musharraf is gone, the US must find allies within a fractious civilian government.

They believe that the current ruling coalition has so far proved itself to be unwilling or unable to confront an expanding al-Qaeda and Taliban insurgency.

Inside Story asks if real problems are beginning to emerge between the coalition partners and whether the US can find a reliable partner to replace Musharraf in the 'war on terror'?
