Naseeruddin Shah's interest in acting came at an early age |
This week on One on One, meet the widely awarded actor and stage star, Naseeruddin Shah.
A man of many talents, his face is instantly recognisable to moviegoers in both the East and the West. With powerful performances in a wide range of films, directors often cast him for his depth of expression.
His interest in acting came at an early age - taking him through drama school in 1973, and leading into his acting debut in Shyam Benegal's 1975 movie, Nishant.
Naseeruddin Shah took a career path that many in India in the late 1970s and 1980s saw as "new wave" - often accepting roles that were more off-beat than the mainstream Bollywood offering. His versatility across the board won him awards and accolades from early on.
Western audiences got to know him through what some consider "cross-over" movies such as Monsoon Wedding - and a Hollywood blockbuster, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Shah will clearly never be shy when it comes to tackling challenging, and often controversial, acting parts.
