Programmes RIZ KHAN
The ICC and Omar al-Bashir

Luis Moreno-Ocampo, the ICC chief prosecutor, joins the show [EPA]
The move by the International Criminal Court (ICC) to indict Omar al-Bashir, the Sudanese president, on charges of "genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in Darfur" has led both sides to lobby world leaders to support their cause.

The UN has estimated that 300,000 people have died since the civil war broke out in Sudan in 2003 and the ICC has alleged that al-Bashir was the mastermind of a plan to wipe out three ethnic groups in the war-torn western province.

Sudan has rejected the charges and says they will damage peace hopes.

On Monday's Riz Khan we look at the political and legal context of the debate and speak with Luis Moreno-Ocampo, the ICC chief prosecutor, and Dr Bona Malwal, special adviser to the Sudanese president.

i think this accusations that Icc wants to arrest sudanse president is totaly wrong Idea, because today's world there is no justice,if there is a justice they will charges or prosecutor many criminal leaders of "genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in Innocentpeople" like George W.Bush, Abdullahi yusuf Ahmed and others more.

ICC illigitimate
It is entirely correct that the ICC is seen as illigitimate. If it were a true Criminal Court then Bush, Blair, Berlusconi, Aznar and those reponsible for the invasion of Iraq would also be indicted. They, however have not been indicted which simply proves that the ICC is another arm of an imperialist regime that will exert power over weaker countries while the real perpetrators of crimes, whether direct or indirect, go unpunished.
