RIZ KHAN
Somalia: From bad to worse

Watch part two

Over the past month, more than 200 people have been killed and more than 100,000 have fled Mogadishu, Somalia's capital.

Relief agencies report that they can not distribute aid to the refugees because the fighting between the government and armed groups is intensifying.

The United Nations reported this week that Somalis are experiencing near-daily atrocities, including rape and the shelling of civilian areas.

In Italy, representatives from more than 35 countries gathered to discuss ways to stabilise Somalia and support the weak transitional federal government, whose legitimacy is being challenged by the rebel groups.

On Wednesday, Riz Khan discusses the country's worsening crisis with Mohamed Abdullahi Omaar, the Somali foreign minister, and Sadia Ali Aden, a Somali-US activist.

This episode of the Riz Khan show aired on Wednesday, June 10, 2009.
