RIZ KHAN
Can Gordon Brown cling to power?

Watch part two

With key cabinet ministers in revolt, Gordan Brown, the British prime minister, is taking a beating.

His Labour party suffered severe losses in local elections last week and early results indicate a poor showing in European parliament elections.

As his government unravels around him, Brown is holding on – refusing to call new elections and maintaining that he has much work ahead of him. But elections must be called within a year.

On Monday's Riz Khan we ask, can Gordon Brown turn around a limp economy and regain public trust before the election or have the policies of 'new Labour' finally run their course?

Jeremy Corbyn, a Labour MP who argues that now is the wrong time for Brown to step aside, and Jonathan Steele, a columnist for the Guardian newspaper, join the show.

This episode of the Riz Khan show aired on Monday, June 8, 2009.
