Programmes RIZ KHAN
Obama in Africa

Watch part two

On Friday, Barack Obama, the US president, begins his first official visit to Africa.

But, does Africa expect too much from the first African-American US president?

On Wednesday's Riz Khan we look at US policy in the continent.

Will his approach differ to that of his predecessors and what will happen to the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) which was created in 2007 but is still looking for a host country on the continent?

Riz is joined by Donald Payne, the chairman of the House sub-committee on Africa and Global Health; Reed Kramer, an All Africa Reporter who was among a group of journalists to brief Obama on issues facing the continent, and Tesfamicael Gerahtu, the Eritrian ambassador to London.

This episode of the Riz Khan show aired on Wednesday, July 8, 2009.
