Programmes RIZ KHAN
Iran and the US

Watch part two

The historic face-to-face meeting between Iranian and US diplomats in Geneva earlier this month has opened the possibilities for future dialogue.

But it remains to be seen if there is really an opportunity for the de-escalation of Iran's nuclear crisis.

Washington says it is simultaneously pursuing two tracks of diplomacy with Tehran - engagement and confrontation.

Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state, is in Moscow to gauge Russia's willingness to impose further sanctions on Iran if the current diplomacy does not work to the US' satisfaction.

On Tuesday, Riz speaks with two keen observers of US-Iranian relations.

Roger Cohen is a columnist for the New York Times who spent some time in Iran before and after the elections on June 12, and Kaveh Afrasiabi is a former adviser to Iran's nuclear negotiating team and a former professor of political science at Tehran University.

This episode of the Riz Khan show aired from Tuesday, October 13, 2009.
