Each documentary reveals the unknown lives of ordinary people, following their lives, telling their stories and portraying the challenges that confront them.
Our witnesses are people in a situation or those who have observed them first hand.

The films cover conflict, belief, the past and the future and as well as bringing new stories to light they showcase the talents of a new breed of multi-skilled, frontline journalist.

In the studio, hos Rageh Omaar further explores the issues raised in the films, with expert guests on the subject matter and the film-makers themselves.

Host: Rageh Omaar

Rageh on location in Somalia
Before joining the Witness team at Al Jazeera English, Rageh Omaar worked for the BBC as Developing World Correspondent and most recently as Africa Correspondent.

Rageh has covered stories ranging from drought in Ethiopia to devastating floods in Mozambique.

His reports during the 2003 Iraq war made him a household name.

BBC news bulletins were syndicated across the US, where the Washington Post labelled him the "Scud Stud".

Rageh was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1967, and moved to Britain as a child, attending school in Cheltenham and gaining an Honours degree in Modern History from Oxford University in 1990.

He began his journalistic career as a trainee at The Voice newspaper in Brixton and worked for a short time on the magazine City Limits before moving to Ethiopia in 1991 where he was a freelance reporter for the BBC World Service.

More recently he wrote the biography Only Half of Me: Being a Muslim in Britain and told the human story of the Battle for Iraq in his book Revolution Day.

Your comments

The Witness program is indeed a revolutionary angle point in journalism in that we the viewers get to understand and learn more about the world we live in and its people. It has been very educational and at many times I see myself truly feeling with the people of the world and thus further makes me be aware of the fact that I am another citizen of this world. Rageh Omar is a true inspirational, thank you Aljazeera, thank you Rageh.

I'd love to thank you for your extra ordinary efforts in presenting the suffering of people all around the world. This time, Nablus thing was self-explanatory to the painful daily life of students. Keep up the great job guys. Thank you again and may God bless you.

Mr Rageh, Actually I Watch your 'WITNESS' programme often and I get thrilled every time I watch it. I made sure my parents and my younger ones watch it whenever it is aired. I was overjoyed with passion when I watched Border Crossing, Maid for Sale, Gaza Fixer et al and the special programme you did at your home country at Mogadishu few weeks back. To Rageh and the Witness crew - keep the fire burning and the
sky is your limit.
